Remembering Joey Dog

Greetings friends and fans. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your nostalgic doggie reporter
Chester L. W. Spaniel.

Today would have been my esteemed late colleague Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel's 16th birthday! I decided it would be fun to just look at some pictures of him from over the years.

He was my best friend and I miss him a lot!

Valentines Day

Hello everyone. This is a TDB Special Report. I'm your amorous doggie reporter
Chester L. W. Spaniel.

I always know when there's something in the mail for me! Look look look lookie look!

It's from my dearest Princess Leah! I love it! It arrived just in time too. I just barely made it to the airport to catch my flight to Paris! We met up at a cozy little cafe with a view of the Eiffel Tower.

I gave them a play list of my favorite love songs so we can have a lovely time sipping puppicinos, and snacking on Crèpe Suzette! Yum!

(What could be classier and more romantic than music by Blossom Dearie?)

Meanwhile, back at home, Dad remembered to get ghostwriter her favorite Valentine's Day present:

Yes, I am howling sorrowfully here. I just found out my dear friend Mr. Jack Freckles (aka MJF) has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. We're sending lots of tearful hugs and condolences to his family.

We're going to really miss you, good buddy!

A Snowy Day

Hello everybody! This is The Daily Bone and I'm your diligent doggie reporter
Chester L. W. Spaniel.

It's been snowing almost all day! It started real early in the morning, after 2am when ghostwriter finally went to bed.

8am: Debbie Dove was sitting on the window birdie feeder. You can still see the grass sticking up through the snow behind her.

11am: I went and did some great snow zoomies!

1:30pm: the snow plow came around. Look at all the snow falling now!

We live on a three way intersection. The truck always stops, backs up, and turns around a couple times to be sure he clears out the entire intersection.

Wow! That's a noisy truck!

But now the road is good for the school bus to drive on!

2pm: I was out for more zoomies. The snow was still falling steadily.

Do you see that crummy rotten squirrel on the tree trunk?

Now I'm headed back inside for a nice nap! Dad and ghostwriter didn't have anywhere to go today. Those are the best kind of days!

4:30pm: The snow stopped and the sun came out for a few minutes before it clouded up again. After all that, we only ended up with about four inches of snow on the ground.

10:30pm: It's snowing again. We'll see what tomorrow brings!

Good night.

Super Sunday

Hello everybody. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your dutiful doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.

Now hear this! On Friday, February 2, 2018 ghostwriter went back to work at the nursing home on 3 to 11pm shift after being off for four months for her knee replacement surgery. She got through it. The next day she said she woke up feeling like she was run over by a truck. But her new knee was OK! Hooray!

But I'd rather she stayed home. I mean, look at this yum yum dinner she made for Super Bowl Sunday! Ooooo! Crockpot ribs with barbecue sauce, and collard greens that were cooked with a smoked turkey wing, and mashed sweet potatoes, and little sausages in a blanket. I got to try everything, and it was all super delicious!

And now Dad is watching the Super Bowl Football Game. I've kind of figured out what that is. It's this game played by big strong guys in tight pants with lots of shoulder padding and big helmets on their heads. They have to get a squeaky ball to one end of their back yard or other, and they all try to stop each other by smashing into each other. I tell you, if I got hold of that squeaky ball, I'd run as fast as I could right out of that back yard, and I wouldn't stop until I was home in my doggie bed!

Ghostwriter says that she still doesn't understand all the rules of football. So instead, we watched some videos, like this adorable owl in Finland:

And this lovely Sasquatch family. (Notice in the first scene, Mommy Sasquatch is whomping a squirrel against a rock. Wow! That's my kind of Mommy!)

I could spend hours watching those Suburu car ads with the Barkleys too!

Ghostwriter and I watched the half time show, though. Dad is very hard of hearing. He has closed captions playing on the TV all the time so he knows what's being said. (Those are the yellow letters on the lower left screen here.) Sometimes he watches TV with no sound at all and just reads the captions.

This year he got some special headphones that play the TV sound directly into his ears by some magic wifi technology. Now he can read the captions and hear the show too! But ghostwriter and I can't hear a thing when he does that.

So I can have a nice comfy nap on the couch.

Good night.
